Unnecessary Harmony?

The Apache Software Foundation received a proposal for an open source J2SE project. The purpose is to create an Apache licensed version of the J2SE 5.0 that is supported by the large number of supporters in the Apache community. For years people have been asking Sun to open source Java, but they met with severe opposition. So they decided to do it themselves!
